DIY Helmet Light

The torch is a "cree led" generic torch off eBay powered by an 18650 Lithium Ion battery. Total cost about £20 in 2010. The light is very powerful, you can see the road clearly at least 75m away.

The 18650 battery gives at least two hours light even when the temperature is -3c.

For the base, take a scrap piece of closed-cell foam packaging, carve to shape and stabilise with gaffer tape.

Scavenge the nylon webbing and buckle, sew on the velcro and glue on the strip of foam. The square plastic buckle in the strap allows you to crank the strap tight.

Make the rear strap the same way, though that doesn't need the buckle. Loop the lanyard from the torch through the rear strap as a back-up attachment in case you whallop the torch on a branch or something.
